The Beer: Red Oak Amber Lager

This is a mildly sweet, fresh tasting lager that hails from the Greensboro area. It is a lovely reddish brown. Plus, it is brewed according to the 1516 Bavarian Law of Purity, which means it is made of only water, malt, yeast, and hops. Consequently, according to the website, "Without additives, or preservatives, or cheaper grains such as rice and corn, Red Oak is pure and wholesome. Being slow cold-aged, unfiltered, and unpasteurized, Red Oak is more nutritious." See? Red Oak is NUTRITIOUS, so drink up! It tastes delicious with Mellow Mushroom's Kosmic Karma pizza....but I'm thinking I might have to pilgrimage to the actual pub in Greensboro.

Red Oak is great and was a good friend of mine (perhaps my best) when I was in grad school at UNCG. They also have a brew called Battlefield Black that's tasty if you are into the dark stuff. I spent many evenings at the local bar with my friend Red Oak and playing REM's "Driver 8" on repeat on the juke box. They had a great juke box. Tuesday nights were free plays from 8PM until 10PM or something like that. The bartender would hand you four quraters for the machine whenever you requested.

Now I'm trying to figure out why I ever moved.

Unfortunately, the pub is now closed. Hopefully this is temporary, but I'm not sure. They have a new large brewery off of I-85/40 East.
